Return to Me
You tell me you were born With an umbilical chord around Your neck, like me, Our faces colored October blue evening As cold as your cheek When life drained from your eyes, Hanging, surrounded by glow of fire’s light, I recall we were side by side, Said we’d resurrect ourselves When the time was right. And your soul promised to go first, Descend from a peaceful place before I’d follow you to this world, When you knew it was safe, I’d find you on a dance floor When the only thing at stake Was the taut pull of my string To yours, A longing I was within Instead of what was contained in me, This knowing that I imagined Most at Christmastime, Or when I listened to music on the beach, My Soul knew before I did, And spoke to me for the first time When you returned to me.

What an arresting piece. The mixture of beginnings, endings, and returnings. I want to ask questions, but I resist just to sit with the work. 🦋❤️🕊️✨
